Your Website Isn't Showing Up in AI Search — And It's Not Because You're Doing Something Wrong

It's because almost nobody has done six specific things, in the right order. This short book shows you exactly what they are — so you can stop guessing and start getting found.

The website that shouldn't have worked

I was auditing therapy websites in a specific city not long ago, and what I found stopped me.

One of the websites showing up in AI search results looked like it was built in 1997. Old fonts. No structure. Nothing you'd call optimized by any modern standard. And there it was — getting recommended anyway, every time someone asked an AI tool for help finding a therapist in that city.

My first thought, honestly, was: how in the world is this website being cited?

Here's what that told me. It's not a story about a lucky business. It's a story about how low the bar actually is right now — and how much opportunity is sitting there for the businesses willing to do the basic work almost nobody else has bothered to do.

If you've been putting off working on your website because you assume everyone else is already ahead of you, I want you to sit with that for a second. The businesses around you probably haven't done the work either. They just haven't been caught not doing it yet.

“Maybe it's just too much competition”

A potential client reached out to me not long ago with a message I hear constantly:

“I'm just not getting enough hits on my website, less than 100 monthly. I'm trying to branch out to other towns. Maybe it's just too much competition. I don't know the problem. I've also been tweaking my website a lot the last few months, so maybe I need to be patient?”

Too much competition. Maybe I just need to wait longer. Maybe it's something I can't quite name.

I hear some version of that constantly, and I don't believe it's ever really about competition. Competition can affect how long it takes you to move up — it does not mean you can't be found. And “tweaking” a website for months without a real system behind it isn't patience. It's scattered effort, and it rarely resolves itself just by waiting longer.

If any part of that sounds familiar, this book was written for you.

What's actually going on

Here's what almost nobody tells business owners: SEO and AI visibility aren't complicated because the individual pieces are hard. They're complicated because most people do the pieces out of order, or skip pieces entirely, and then wonder why nothing's moving.

None of these are dumb mistakes. They're just disconnected pieces of a system nobody ever showed them how to build in order.

That's what this book fixes.

Introducing

Findable

Why Your Website Isn't Showing Up in AI Search (And the 6 Steps That Fix It)

Findable is a short, plain-language book built around the exact framework I use with my own clients — Booked Out by Search. Six steps. A specific order. No wasted motion.

Findable e-book cover: Why your website isn't showing up in AI search, and the six steps that fix it

You'll walk away understanding

  1. Step 1

    The foundation nobody checks.

Why most websites aren't even tracking the data that would tell you if anything's working, and the difference between leads (the last thing to move) and the early signals that tell you something's actually shifting.

  2. Step 2

    Your North Star.

Why your gut instinct is the wrong tool for keyword research — but can actually be trusted more when it comes to what people ask AI tools. Includes the real story of my very first SEO client, a dietitian who started ranking within weeks once we stopped guessing.

  3. Step 3

Make your website impossible to misunderstand.

The one small consistency detail that quietly undermines more local businesses than almost anything else — and why fixing it can be done in a single sitting.

  4. Step 4

    Become the obvious answer.

How one of my own blog posts got cited in a Google AI Overview just ten days after publishing, and why “more content” is bad advice while “more backlinks” might be the most overrated advice in SEO.

  5. Step 5

    Turn traffic into bookings.

The real story of a workshop student who added one clear button to her website and said it “completely increased” her booked consultations — and why this step gets its own spotlight even though it runs alongside everything else.

  6. Step 6

    Keep the momentum going.

Why this isn't a project with a finish line, and how the window that's open right now won't stay open forever.

Real numbers from real clients

I don't do hype. I don't do “explode your traffic overnight.” Here's what actually happened for two clients who did this work, in the right order:

7% AI traffic

One client went from essentially zero AI-referred traffic to about 7% of their overall website traffic coming from ChatGPT alone — in three months.

4–5 leads/day

Another client went from occasional inquiries to 4–5 leads a day, and became a source AI tools actively cite.

No massive ad budgets. No years of grinding. Just the six steps, done in order.

Who this is for

This book is for you if you run a therapy practice, a photography business, a nutrition practice, a salon, or any other local service business — and you're tired of your calendar depending entirely on referrals.

It's not for you if you're not interested in growing your business, or your business doesn't rely on people finding you online. This isn't a book about chasing algorithm hacks or becoming a technical expert. It's about six steps, done in the right order, so the right clients find you on their own.

What you won't get (on purpose)

This is the book, not the full program. You won't find keyword tool walkthroughs, a line-by-line technical checklist, or content calendar templates in these pages — that's the done-with-you version, for later, if you want it.

What you will get is total clarity on exactly where your website stands against all six steps, and exactly what to fix first. For most businesses, that clarity alone is worth more than another few months of guessing.

About the author

I'm Amanda Hamilton. I've spent over fifteen years in design, branding, and digital strategy, and for the last several years I've focused specifically on helping local service businesses get found — not through ads, not through referrals alone, but through the actual mechanics of how Google, Maps, and AI tools decide who to recommend.

I wrote this book because I kept having the same conversation, over and over, with business owners who'd tried things, gotten discouraged, and assumed they were somehow the exception. They weren't. They just hadn't seen the steps laid out, in order, before.
